22. When I Was One-and-Twenty

The basis of this folk song is the poetry of A.E. Housman, an English poet writing during the turn of the 20th century. The opening monologue begins as advice given by a wise person warning the young speaker about the heartbreak of lost love. Glenda has added a third verse of original text. This song fits the young male voice very nicely and will be a favorite to sing! 1:25

23. What Child is This?

This is an original setting of a traditional Christmas text for tenor and bass voices with an optional second tenor part. Lyrical, sensitive singing is a must for this seasonal selection. A familiar version of “Silent Night” appears in the middle section of the choral, followed by an exciting Gloria! The concluding section combines the elements of “Silent Night,” the original Greensleeves tune and Laura’s new melody. 3:18

Here we have a setting of a very patriotic text by Thomas Davis. The words, which refer to “this native land of mine”, are certainly appropriate for country or nationality, but this song is particularly well suited for Veteran’s Day, July 4th concerts, and other patriotic American occasions. 3:41
