Brian Busch, D.M.A.
Founder of BriLee Music
Educator, Conductor, Clinician

Brian taught public school and university levels for 20 years. He had real-time teaching experience at the Junior High. His experiences at this level taught him how difficult it was (and is) to find choral music for the Jr. High/Middle School ensemble. At the university he specialized in vocal and elementary methods, conducting and supervision of student teachers. One of his favorite classes was The Boys Changing Voice, a summertime favorite among teachers in the field. He has also conducted church choirs for 16 years.

Brian was a well-respected guest conductor of all-state choirs and district and regional honor choirs. He gave hundreds of clinics, workshops, in-service training sessions and reading sessions in the United States, as well as in Brazil, Australia and Germany. No matter what the topic, listeners always went away from Brian’s sessions encouraged and uplifted, with a new sense of commitment and urgency.

After 20 years of teaching, Brian entered the publishing field as Director of Choral Publications for Columbia Pictures Publications, later to become CPP/Belwin and finally Warner Bros. Publications. His 11 years there gave him the knowledge and skills to start BriLee Music Publishing Co. in August of 1996. With his commitment to quality choral music and his keen interest in the Jr. High/Middle School, it was a natural for BriLee Music to specialize in choral music for this age level.

In June of 2007, Brian lost the battle with cancer. The industry lost a dear friend and wonderful educator. Prior to his passing, Brian talked often about keeping his vision and passion alive. Carl Fischer Music has taken over exclusive distribution rights for BriLee Music and, together with the group of talented writers that Brian had cultivated over the years, has committed to keeping the catalog focused and developed around the Middle School/Jr. High choral ensemble. Every work that is reviewed and published is examined by editors that understand the Middle School Chorus and are dedicated to keeping the BriLee Music Mission Statement.

BriLee Music’s Mission Statement

The mission of BriLee Music Publishing Company is to produce quality performance choral music for public and private school ensembles and to provide excellent service to the music retailer and the end consumer.

A Brief History

BriLee Music was formed in August, 1996, with its first group of 40 publications in print and ready to market by the end of January, 1997. The goal was to provide quality choral music for the Junior High/Middle School and Elementary School ensemble. Since that time, BriLee Music has continued to produce between 40 and 50 works for each school year. The impact of BriLee Music on the educational print music industry was strong and immediate. Junior High and Middle School teachers discovered that BriLee Music was publishing for their choral ensembles with their specific vocal problems in mind.

Writers, such as Ruth Elaine Schram, Donald Moore, Vijay Singh, Sonja Poorman, Dave and Jean Perry and many others, rallied behind BriLee Music. We were able to fulfill our mission statement within the first 4 months of existence. Since that time, the writers have become the essence of BriLee Music.

We Believe:

  • That students should be given beautiful melodies to sing if they are to experience the beauty of music.
  • That students should sing lots of unison works so they can concentrate on blend, balance and the production of a beautiful tone.
  • That students should be introduced to a wide variety of music, from Renaissance to Contemporary, from the fun and light to the serious and challenging.
  • That every choir rehearsal should be a voice lesson.
  • That every time students open their mouths to sing, the results should be musical–even warm-ups.

BriLee Music offers choral music to make each of the above a priority in your choral experience.
